Vocabulary Development

http://pdictionary.com/

This website is an English picture dictionary. I use this website all the time with my special education ELL students. I bookmark it to their Chromebook's so students can look up both pictures and words. I also use this as a teacher to provide students with pictures of different words.

It also has games and activities on the side. My students get to use the flashcards and enjoy the fill in the blank and stinky spelling games. This website also allows students to search by their native languages (English, French, German, Spanish and Italian).

This site allows ELL students (or teachers of ELLs)  to simply copy text from a reading, test/quiz, or just about anything by copy and pasting the text into the site. I recommend it for adapting and modifying resources you already have. Statement from site:

"Rewordify.com helps people read more, understand difficult English faster, and learn words in new ways. Teachers use it to save time and increase learning from any English text.

Just paste in a difficult English sentence, paragraph, or more (or enter a web page URL) and click the button. You'll instantly see an easier version, for fast understanding now. No dictionary needed! Plus, the easier version is specially highlighted to help build vocabulary."

This is a link with some awesome ideas for vocabulary games. These games can be played by all students, but especially benefit ELL students. There are activities that can be printed as well as activities that require some easy preparation.
